Between the end of the first world war and the beginning of the second, there were 7601 days. Between the end of the second world war and today there are 7601 days too. We have now drawn level with the 20 years of uneasy peace that separated November 11, 1918 and September 3, 1939.
This week, we trace the flavour of the two periods: the troubled peace of 1918-1939, the troubled peace of 1945-1966. We end with the great unanswered question: such as this peace is, can we make it last?
